| Avs need to score at trade deadline
That's a lot of lost revenue. And consider that the Avalanche already announced that tickets prices are going up again next season. Wasn't it interesting that season-ticket holders were told that if they committed to renew for next season by Friday — or four days before the trading deadline — they will pay regular-season prices for their seats in this year's playoffs ... if the Avs make it? That means the Kroenke Sports folks already have at least a hint of how much their season-ticket base might further diminish for next season. And maybe about how desperate they want Giguere to be as he seeks a means to strengthen the Avs' chances of just making the playoffs, which might stem a bit of the bleeding. On Tuesday morning, the Avs still will be at least mathematically in the running for a postseason berth.
Mother Earth Mother Board
Much of this will be used for telephone and other non-Internet purposes, but it can't help but serve as a major floodgate between JARING, the censored pseudo-Internet of Malaysia, and the rest of the Net. After that, it will be interesting to see how long JARING remains confined to its pot. FLAG facts The FLAG system, that mother of all wires, starts at Porthcurno, England, and proceeds to Estepona, Spain; through the Strait of Gibraltar to Palermo, Sicily; across the Mediterranean to Alexandria and Port Said, Egypt; overland from those two cities to Suez, Egypt; down the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea, with a potential branching unit to Jedda, Saudia Arabia; around the Arabian Peninsula to Dubai, site of the FLAG Network Operations Center; across the Indian Ocean to Bombay; around the tip of India and across the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea to Ban Pak Bara, Thailand, with a branch down to Penang, Malaysia; overland across Thailand to Songkhla; up through the South China Sea to Lan Tao Island in Hong Kong; up the coast of China to a branch in the East China Sea where one fork goes to Shanghai and the other to Koje-do Island in Korea, and finally to two separate landings in Japan - Ninomiya and Miura, which are owned by rival carriers.
'American Idol' Recap: Atlanta Auditions Draw Beauty Queen, Homeless ...
On Tuesday night's 900th seventh "American Idol" audition episode of the season, Ryan Seacrest brought the gang back to his hometown, Atlanta. There was talent, there were tears, there were Ryan's parents. (If Dennis Kucinich became a televangelist, he'd look exactly like Papa Seacrest.) And of course, there were awards to be given. Giddy-up... The Scooter Girl Prize for Proof That We Shouldn't See More "Good" Singers in These Audition Episodes: Joshua Jones For a couple of seasons, die-hard "Idol" fans (myself included) have been begging for less William Hung and more Paris Bennett in the audition episodes. But after seeing glass worker Josh Jones score a golden ticket, I think I speak for many when I say, "We were wrong." Aside from the fact that the dude had to sing with his back to the judges so as not to distract them with his crazy "demonic" eyes, his Queen audition sounded a tiny bit too Tiny Tim for my taste.
Canadian GP - Saturday - Team Quotes
Felipe Massa (5th, 1:16.570): "We certainly cannot be happy with this result, but let's wait for tomorrow's race to produce a true picture of the situation, especially in terms of what strategies the teams have opted to go with. Our car is very good in terms of its race pace and with a bit of luck it might be possible to make up a few places at the start." Jean Todt, Team Principal: "This was a very disappointing qualifying session for us, the worst of the season as we were no match for our main rivals. Of course, the points only get given out in the race and tomorrow the key factors will be the usual ones - strategy, reliability, performance and team work, but the overall picture after today is not a favourable one and I hope that changes for the race." Luca Baldisserri, Head of Trackside Operations: "At this circuit the result of qualifying is less important than at others but we cannot deny that today our closest rivals were quicker than us.
Science CES 2008 Ride and Drive with GM's Fuel Cell Equinox and DARPA ...
We here at DailyTech have profiled fuel cell vehicle on numerous occasions. Companies like General Motors, Ford and Honda have showcased both concept and production hydrogen fuel cell vehicles over the year and they have always generated much interest from our readers. DailyTech was recently given a chance to take a fuel cell vehicle out onto the streets of Las Vegas during the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The vehicle tested, the fuel cell version of the Chevy Equinox, was modified to include an electric motor, fuel cells, hydrogen storage, batteries, and more. The key component is GM's fourth generation fuel cell stack which is about the size of an inline-6 engine turned sideways. A single 97 HP, 236 lb-ft co-axial electric motor drives the front wheels. The car has a pack of nickel-metal hydride batteries, which provide 35 kWh of on demand power for peak loading during acceleration. The car features three 10,000 psi storage tanks which can hold up to nine pounds of hydrogen. Two tanks are found beneath the rear seat, and one is mounted near the rear suspension. The car has enough fuel for a 200 mile trip as verified during EPA testing.
National Treasure fills the wait for Indy
Though told entirely from Bauby's imprisoned perspective, it finds plenty of room, via flashbacks, fantasies and hospital visits, to address his relationships with his ex-partner (Emmanuelle Seigner), mistress, friends, and crusty invalid father (Max Von Sydow). Spearheaded by Amalric's towering minimalism, it's a supremely well acted work. Retaining his humour, through often wry interior monologues we see Bauby wrestle with his guilt, self-pity, conflicted emotions, and memories in a way that rises beyond his situation to become an unsentimental celebration of what matters in life and the stubborn determination not to let casual fate wipe it away in the blink of an eye.
