She's attracting people wherever she goes because she's very bright and people recognise it and respect her.' Has she ever taken a game off you? 'No!' Then: 'I'm joking. Of course she has. But I could never play with her 100 per cent serious because I laugh with her more than anyone else. I really enjoy practising with her.' Who's better, Ana or Jelena? Djokovic is too gentlemanly to be drawn. 'I just say... I don't know! I wouldn't, because they're both playing great tennis.' The exhibition match is only one set long, much of it a showcase for his on-court silliness and, of course, impersonations. At the end of the evening, Djokovic and Tipsarevic join the band to sing a popular, though puzzling, song about friendship (sample lyrics: 'I myself am a migratory bird'). Djokovic's voice is not what you would call tuneful, but right now he could release a recording of his tooth-brushing routine and still have a number-one hit.
Dollar - Dropping to New Lows?
Despite the negative reading from the trade report though, exports did improve over the month as demand from China and Russia filled in for the slump in US orders. This is a promising dynamic, but can it last? Outside the confines of the economic docket, there was a tangible interest in risk developing behind the yen’s ebb and flow. For most of the week, the market was fleeing from its risky positions. The cost of credit default swaps (used to protect investors from corporate bond risk) continually won record highs through the week. This fear was fed by reports that major bond insurers were attempting to split off their subprime units (and opening $580 billion in assets open to downgrades), news that the UK government would nationalize troubled lender Northern Rock (and thereby admitting the problem was severe) and deepening fears of a US recession.
Healy strike sinks Danes
Northern Ireland maintained their faint hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008 after coming from behind to beat Denmark 2-1 in Belfast. Things looked bleak for Nigel Worthington's men shortly after half-time when Niclas Bendtner stabbed home from close range. However, the home side never threw in the towel and got back on level terms when Warren Feeney headed Chris Brunt's cross past Thomas Sorensen. The contest was illuminated 10 minutes from the end when David Healy's superb chip nestled inside the far post - moving him past Davor Suker's 12-goal qualifying record. The victory means Northern Ireland can still qualify, although they will still need to win in Spain and hope Sweden lose at home to Latvia in order to feature in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
What if the 'Surge' Works?
In one sense, this second grand Bush plan failure wouldn't be nearly as disastrous as the first--tens of thousands of people wouldn't die. In another sense, it would be worse. We can retreat from Iraq. We won't be able to retreat from the failure of immigration reform--no "surge" will save us--because it will change who "we" are. **--Worse than a Quebec problem, maybe. Also, information doesn't always “flow freely." Ask any student who has been assigned a topic for a paper that requires the use of scholarly sources how easily and freely what they need is free (and easily found) on the net. One final point: as there is always a buck to be made, information exclusivity isn't going away any time soon. Krista Schmidt, at 3:25 pm EDT on June 25, 2007 .
