Intel's next Classmate PC based on Silverthorne
Intel is working on an updated version of its Classmate PC designed for schoolchildren in developing countries, part of a wider effort to spur demand for low-cost laptops. Based on the company's upcoming Silverthorne processor, the new Classmate PC will likely be sleeker and have longer battery life than the current version, according to Navin Shenoy, general manager of Intel's Asia-Pacific operations. "It's fair to say that there is a Silverthorne-based Classmate design in the works that would likely come out coincidentally with the microprocessor," Shenoy said, adding that Intel has not determined pricing for the new laptop design. Silverthorne, which is billed as being easy on both power and the pocketbook, is part of Intel's Menlow platform that also includes the upcoming Poulsbo chipset.

Designer Harald Belker, who has created the Batmobile for Batman and Robin and a next-gen space shuttle for Armageddon, came onboard to give the new KITT. a unique look. "The goal was to make it look more aggressive without being hokey or garish," Belker says. "Maintaining as much of the original beauty of the Shelby as possible was important—and not just because of the Ford connection. It had to be simple yet believable as a superhero." Once his vision was set, Belker turned to Ted Moser from Picture Car Warehouse to make his drawings come to life. But there was one big hurdle: The GT500KR doesn't technically exist quite yet.
Desi Oral History Takes Shape At Indiana U
During the lifetimes of contemporary immigrants, however, the ready availability of telephones, fax machines, and e-mail has made letter writing and the keeping of diaries almost a lost art. Fortunately, oral history provides a way to access contemporary immigrants' narratives about their experience. Such primary sources represent nothing less than history in the makingfirsthand accounts captured at a distinct moment in the acculturation processthat may prove vital to historians and other researchers later attempting to understand the larger picture of American immigration and assimilation. Allesandro Portelli commends oral-history research for its firsthand insights into people's interpretations of their personal and historical experiences. Donald Ritchie says oral history may well be the modern substitute for the written memoir.
